WHEN 7 June, 2019 (past event)
WHERE Helston Museum of Cornish Life WHAT During a week-long residency on Lizard Point, artists Joanna Mayes, Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) and Justin Wiggan explored communication heritage sites on the Lizard coastline. This evening is a sharing — in the unique, after hours space at Helston museum — of the interactive sound and visuals collaboration between the three, using collected images, sound and data obtained through sensors, broadcast and wireless technologies. This residency celebrates the 250-year anniversary of the observation of the Transit of Venus from the Lizard, contributing to the first successful international measurement of the size of the universe on June 3rd 1769. Lizard Beacons also marks the 400 year anniversary of the first light emanating from a lighthouse on the Lizard which reached the Pliades, 400 light years away, in 2019. *Cast Café will pop up to provide a delicious choice of Lamb or Vegan Tagine, when booked in advance. Simply choose the Ticket & Food option when you book your tickets and your hot meal will be ready for collection from 6.30pm. There will also be cakes and a bar, available on the night. 400 Light Years is part of Mayes Creative project, Lizard Beacons; creating links between past and new creative technologies. Inspired by key communications anniversaries for Lizard peninsula in June/July 2019; Mayes Creative have been working closely with heritage, science & tech partners to deliver creative experiences for artists and communities. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Dr Joanna Mayes works with 8 and 16mm film and the improvisatory effects of hand processing and live digital manipulation. Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) traverses the experimental terrain between sound and space connecting a bewilderingly diverse array of genres. Justin Wiggan works with sound and performance to discover the links between the internal tourist and the external explorer. The artists will be joined by project collaborator, Astro Physicist, Carolyn Kennett. Open Studio - 400 Light Years
