Dark Skies: Bright Stars at Sea Salts & Sail festival
Please join us for our very special performances and events at the Sea Salts & Sail festival in Mousehole (13-15 July 2018).
1:30-2.45 Junior Schools Performance Poetry
3.00-3.30 Pip Wright's community choir singing specially commissioned songs about navigation
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and FEAST, we’re celebrating the rich history of astronomy in Penwith & Isles of Scilly by looking at how the ancient astronomers would have used the sun, stars and moon to navigate their way over both land and sea.
Performances include ‘Dark Skies: Guiding Stars’, a Kana Kernow mixed choirs event led by Pip Wright, sharing brand new songs specially written by the community all about celestial navigation at sea; and ‘Land, Sea and Stars’ children's performance poetry with Mousehole Primary School, Newlyn School and St Ives Junior School who have also made their own starry maps and poems especially for Sea Salts and Sail, working with artist and performer Keith Sparrow. Sally Crabtree and Laura Martin will also be on hand to entice you into creative star-based adventures!
Either come on public transport, or park on the way into Mousehole (Coastguards Carpark is a good option) then wander down to the harbour to enjoy the festival :)
