Following The Light: Lizard Point Multidisciplinary Residency
March 17th-21st 2020
Join us from 17 – 21st March 2020 for a multi-disciplinary residency at YHA Lizard Point, Cornwall, the most southerly point in the UK.
A wonderful opportunity to spend time and get creative in the inspiring location of Lizard Point, staying in the Lizard Point YHA, nestled between the lighthouse and the sea, surrounded by like-minded people.
£100 for 4 night residency/retreat at Lizard Point YHA
£45 supported places (Cornwall residents, see below)
We are keeping this very low cost to make it accessible for all, with 4 places available for Cornwall residents @£45 (assessed by financial need/what you can bring to the residency).
Please send expressions of interest for Cornwall residents' places to [email protected]. Deadline Mon 24th Feb or apply through curator space link below.
Our second round call deadline is midnight on 4th March 2020. We have very wide criteria for this residency, so if you are keen to join us please apply!

//About The Residency
We welcome all artforms - lots of room for site specific working; dance, music etc. There is a large sitting room and two smaller spaces plus a laundry which can be made into a darkroom space on request.
We are also keen to include researchers/enthusiasts of all disciplines; if you know anyone who you think would be interesting to include (collaborators perhaps?), please encourage them to apply.
There will be lots of opportunities for sharing work/ideas with others at the residency and we encourage everyone to bring ideas, enthusiasms and any relevant research to share; our overview project theme is light/solar.
//Practicalities
All accommodation is shared at Lizard Point YHA (no more than 4 to a room), although there are 2 small family rooms which could potentially be bought as private twin/doubles (£300 for 4 nights)
We will set up a facebook page so residents can organise lift sharing to the Lizard Point/taxi sharing from the station. We will help where we can.
There is wifi but very little phone signal (bliss!). Nice pubs to walk to nearby; basic food in the village and a larger store in nearby Mullion.
As this is low cost opportunity we do expect the residents to be reasonably self-sufficient and share responsibility for looking after the space. YHA staff will not be on hand to respond immediately to requests, although we do have a designated MC representative on site.
Also available during the residency:
**Ancient Stone Circles with solar alignments: walk with **Astroarchaeology expert Carolyn Kennett FRSA (transport not provided, but we try to lift share)
**Measuring The Universe Installation/performance at the lighthouse on Friday evening by Justin Wiggan and Joanna Mayes
**Talk on the story of Cornwall's solar watchers by Carolyn Kennett.
**Pop up Following The Light exhibition at the Lighthouse Heritage Centre (Friday/Sat)
**Cornwall Artists' learning/networking day: Solar Inspiration with workshop by Mayes Creative’s Joanna Mayes and Carolyn Kennett on creative heritage engagement and creating successful interdisciplinary partnerships. A chance to meet local artists and join our networking event.
**
This residency is part of the Measuring The Universe project, produced by Mayes Creative and kindly supported by Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund and FEAST.
