On the day you can expect: Meet Raff! Come along to our Victorian-style photo booth and have your picture taken by expert heritage photographer Stephen Rafferty. Why not bring along a hat? Times: from 10.30-12.30 and again from 13.30-4.00 Place: Non train-stopping platform at Okehampton Station Stephen Raff is a visual artist, passionate about and dedicated to the making of historical process-based photographs. Meet Harry! Morning photography workshop and walk - HOW TO MAKE EYE CATCHING PHOTOGRAPHS with Harry Fricker. Time: 11.00 - 12.30 Place: Simmons Park, Okehampton Afternoon photography workshop and walk - MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY with Harry Fricker Time: 13.30 - 15.00 Place: Simmons Park, Okehampton BOOK HERE. Meet Sally! Art on the Dartmoor Line: Join poet and artist Sally Crabtree on the train between Exeter Central and Okehampton and create your own work of art during the journey. Sally will be on board the 10.32 departure from Exeter Central to Okehampton and the 11.27 departure from Okehampton to Exeter central. Activities are free but train fares apply. Meet Tom! Heritage exploration of the station with Tom Baxter of the Dartmoor Railway Association. Come and join Tom Baxter for a guided tour of the heritage of Okehampton railway station. Learn all the stories about the history and restoration of the line. This will involve a short stroll in and around the station. Please wear appropriate clothing as it is outside. Time: 12.00 - 13.00 Place: Meet at the entrance to the heritage side of the station. Tom Baxter is a member of The Dartmoor Railway Association and has been instrumental in keeping Okehampton station alive over the past decades. Places are limited to 20. BOOK HERE. |
Meet Peter!
Hand built Victorian Clock and sound installation. Time: all day Artist, Inventor and train enthusiast Peter Moon has made a wonderful bespoke steampunk clock, which references the station’s heritage. Drop by to the heritage platform, (over the footbridge or accessible from the Dartmoor Carpark entrance) anytime to see it in action. In addition he has created a sound installation to share some of the oral history memories of previous railway workers, collected by Okehampton College students. Peter Arthur Moon is an award winning multi-disciplinary artist and inventor who has built this bespoke clock for the day. Meet Emma - Dartmoor’s Daughter! Enjoyable afternoon walk from Okehampton Train Station exploring flora and fauna on the 'Granite Way' next to the old railway tracks, and a beautiful woodland to catch a glimpse of the ruins of Okehampton Castle. Level: Moderate - approximately 2.5 miles on woodland, field and tarmac paths. There is a hill to walk up and down. Please wear suitable outdoors clothing and hiking boots/shoes. Time: 1.45pm for 2pm walking start outside Okehampton Train station (heritage platform). Finishes at 4pm. Place: Meet at the entrance to the heritage side of the station. She creates walks and nature-connection experiences that invite a deeper (re)connection to our bodies, communities, and the land so that we can be happier, healthier and inspired to care for our natural environments. Remembering Okehampton Railway (video, shown on a loop) Dom Carnell and students from the Okehampton College Media department have been working with the Dartmoor Railway Association to gather stories of Okehampton Railway from previous railway workers. The Fireman (2009) - Mark Jenkins We are delighted to be showing an early film from BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Mark Jenkin, documenting the heritage story of a railway fireman.
