Mayes Creative and the Penwith Landscape Partnership are collaborating to bring this opportunity to explore the unique Penwith landscape through creative observation. The day starts with a (socially distanced) guided walk from Chapel Carn Brea, via Bartinney to the well preserved Romano-British settlement of Carn Euny. Along the route, we will explore the heritage, nature and outstanding views. At Carn Euny Jo and Justin will talk about their creative approaches, sharing their techniques and expertise about filmmaking/photography and sound and how this can be used to express a sense of place. Carolyn Kennett will lead the walk and will share her specialist knowledge of the landscape and what is currently known about the way in which the prehistoric sites relate to the landscape and the stars, sun and moon above them.
We are sure you will be inspired by this landscape and its history and we are keen for you to take this opportunity to make research for your own creative responses to the site. There will be various opportunities for participating artists to share their work as part of the wider PLP project, both online and hopefully within a physical touring exhibition.
The walk is approx one mile in length each way. (People with mobility issues can park at Carn Euny noting that there is still a walk all be it shorter in length, meet onsite at 10.45).
This is an outdoor event and therefore you need to come prepared for all weathers.
Bring a drink, something to munch on and wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy!
Please be aware that this may be moved or cancelled due to weather or changes in current COVID rules
Any questions, please contact us via [email protected]
Places are very limited and will be allocated on the basis of the type of artist practice you are engaged in and also your connection to the Penwith landscape and communities.
Delivered as part of the Seeing The Landscape Project, in partnership with www.penwithlandscapepartnership.com and supported by Heritage Lottery Fund
